We’re living in strange and worrying times just now, and I hope that you’re all able to keep yourself and your families safe from harm in this unprecedented time.
I’ve thought long and hard about this post. The events at hand are impossible to ignore just now, and any manner of brevity seems trivial and inappropriate when we all have more important things upon our minds, however, I also realise that at times like this we all need an escape from the headlines of the day, and to have something approaching normal (whatever this means to you) in our lives to fall back upon.
Reading is one of my fall backs, and it’s something that has the ability to instantly whisk us away into another world – another life. Whether it be pure fantasy or fiction, or whether it be accounts of true life events, it enhances us, expands our minds and allows us to experience emotions and events through another’s body and mind. It is, quite simply – magical. This sentiment is captured in one of my favourite quotes by George R R Martin – “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
So I’ll be reading my way through this most unsettling of times, and whether its one of my stories or someone else’s, I hope you’ll find your necessary escape and downtime by way of immersing yourself in a book or two over the coming days and weeks.
Stay safe everyone, and let’s look forward to better times to come.
Love & hugs to you all,
